“I am willing to accept” he began, clearly gearing up for wounded righteousness, “that sprouts are an integral part of Christmas dinner. I am also willing to accept that, as a vegetarian, I can’t have goose, or turkey, or pigs-in-blankets. I am even willing to accept that vegetarian equivalents to such are unacceptable. What I find difficult to believe is that anyone could find sprouts in sprout sauce an appropriate celebratory meal for any occasion, let alone Christmas!”
