"Genetic match confirmed," D84 said. "Sample six was present at the crime scene."

Poul jumped up from his chair. "Sample six? Are you out of your metal mind? You know as well as I do we only took swabs from the five suspects..." He tailed off as he reached the workbench, and saw the evidence that D84 had been working on. The locket Asara had given him, with her hologram— and a lock of her hair.

"It must be some mistake," he heard himself saying, while the Universe crashed down around him.

Inwardly, he already knew. This was no mistake.
