Sarah's heart rate returns to something like normal. 'You're Harriet Jones.'

'MP, Flydale North,' Harriet confirms.

'So. You've heard about the strange green lights, then?'

'Yes, and weird smells, and visitors who never come out. Somewhere,' Harriet says, 'there's one hell of a cover-up going on.'

Leela would have done anything for the Doctor, of course. She knew, though, that something was desperately wrong on Gallifrey, and with the Doctor himself. He seemed to have a plan to sort it out, but in the meantime she didn't see much point in decking herself in those ridiculous Gallifreyan robes, all heavy and impractical foil and velvet. If she had to be at the ceremony for his presidential investiture (and it seemed he wanted her to), she'd wear the garb of the Sevateem. It was just as traditional, and she was much less likely to trip over it.

Back into black, the beyond, the bountiful -ness of nothing-and-everything that welcomes him in with oblique, obliging, obsequious arms. Arms? No. Entrails. No! Hearts. Hearts, or the local equivalent – beating pounding pumping writhing squeezing living. Right! Life. That's what he was on about; that's what this is all about! Stay busy. That was the secret; that was always the secret. If you stayed busy, there wasn't time to brood about loves lost, family lost, friends lost, lives lost. There wasn't time to feel sad, or lonely.

And you had to admit - the whole of time and space was a hell of a distraction.
